TWO IN ONE DAY – SILVER STAR AWARDS WHEEL OF FORTUNE®
(Choctaw, MS) – Cynthia Dickerson won $506,962 when she hit the dollar Wheel of Fortune ® progressive MegaJackpot™ at the Silver Star Hotel and Casino at Pearl River Resort on Wednesday, June 23rd.
The winner, a retiree from Sallis, Mississippi, was the second MegaJackpot™ winner at the Silver Star on Wednesday. Just hours earlier, an Alabama woman won $360,150 on a Wheel of Fortune ® quarters progressive. To make the win even more incredible, Dickerson had just entered the casino. “I [was] only at the casino ten minutes. [We] walked in, sat down and the machine hit” she said. Dickerson went on to say that although she is still in a bit of a “daze,” she is considering using some of her winnings to Travel to Alaska on a cruise, and to visit Hawaii. She added, however, that she doesn’t think her win will change her life drastically. “I’ve always been level headed” she said.
The first winner of the day, Maxine Ryan, won $360,150 when she hit the Wheel of Fortune® quarters MegaJackpot™ at Silver Star early Wednesday, June 23rd. The winner, a retiree from Oneonta, Alabama, said she “always plays Wheel of Fortune®” and “loves to see and hear the spin.” A regular visitor to the casino, Ryan said her friend “dreamed” that her husband won big. After investing only $50 into the winning machine, it was Mrs. Ryan that walked away with the MegaJackpot™. Ryan went on to say that she does not have any plans for her winnings as of yet but feels “wonderful, wonderful, wonderful” about her win.
The casino’s second MegaJackpot™ of the day brings the casino’s overall payout to $5.1 million in the last three years. Last year, the casino awarded six MegaJackpots™ bringing the Silver Star’s total payout for 2003 to $1.4 million. The Silver Star is one of two Mississippi casinos to carry IGT progressive games. The casino belongs to a nationwide Native American progressive gaming network that includes over 150 casinos in 15 states. The one-dollar Wheel of Fortune® progressive system has a starting jackpot of $500,000, and features the famous spinning wheel from the popular television game show. In order to win the MegaJackpot™, a player bets three dollars while attempting to line up the Wheel of Fortune® reel symbols on the machine’s payline.
